Between the first eastern twilight and the actual sunrise, there is an eternity of anticipation, an apparent stasis. Yet the cold dawn is a wondrous spectacle of continuous subtle transformations. Changing wisps of cloud, an awakening bird, fading constellations…

This prelude is like a snapshot of the night drawing to a close. A plaintive motif is constantly being reworked in rapidly changing shapes, but the underlying harmony only slowly colours the darkness.
